AAUW/RSCC Scholarships Sale
The Oak Ridge Branch of the American Association of University Women
(AAUW) will hold a rummage sale and silent auction in the lobby of Roane State
Community College (RSCC), Oak Ridge Campus on Saturday, October 20, from 8 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Proceeds will be used to provide summer scholarships to RSCC women.
AAUW members and friends are providing items for the rummage sale.
Tables of one, two, three, and five dollar items will be available, as well as
tables for more expensive items for sale. Larger items include an unused
bicycle, collectables, and some antiques.
Area merchants are
contributing items, such as a local motel weekend stay, gift certificates, and
a hair styling, to the silent auction. Bidding on silent auction items will
close at 1 p.m. The winning bidder for each item will be called requesting pick
up of the item by 2 p.m. If the item is not picked up, the second winning
bidder will be called.
Assisting women and girls in their educational
pursuits is the purpose of AAUW. The group implements their mission through
projects to provide scholarships, by tutoring in local schools, and through
advocacy programs. Last year four (4) RSCC scholarships were granted by AAUW.
AAUW member Donna von der Lage and her committee have worked diligently
to make this the best sale possible. For more information, please call 220-0143
or go to the AAUW-OR website at www.aauw-oakridge.org.
