Since 1951, the Oak
Ridge Branch has operated with 65-125 members to encourage the education of
women in the local area, the state, and the nation.
Currently, there are
14 life members, including 10 50-year members and 4 paid members.
Projects have ranged
from sponsoring foreign films and special lectures to assisting Roane State
Community College students and graduate students.
We have book groups
and gourmet cooking groups.
Proceeds from computer
courses and the selling of historic Oak Ridge note cards fund the educational
projects.
AAUW welcomes new
members who espouse educational efforts for women.
And, yes, we welcome
male members also.

PRESIDENTS
MESSAGE
This is my last Presidents Messagea fact that many
of you no doubt are happy to hear. I may have difficulty adjusting to my new
situation. It reminds me of the story of Rev. Bennett from my hometown. In the
early 1900s his church members gave him an automobile to show their
appreciation of his efforts before he moved to his next church appointment.
Rev. Bennett drove the car home, came to the gate (He lived on a farm.), pulled
back on the steering wheel, and yelled Whoa. Needless to say, he
crashed into the gate!
I wish to thank each one of you for your time
and efforts in making our local AAUW organization viable and altruistic these
past four years. You have done a magnificent job. I am very proud of our
accomplishments, as Im sure you are as well. Providing scholarships to
women improves our society, continued learning through our excellent programs
updates us members, and cementing friendships through our activities and
efforts has invaluable personal results now and in the future. You are a
wonderful bunch. Thank you for supporting me, AAUW, and our local projects.
AAUW-Oak Ridge stands tall. We operate in the black, have monies for
future scholarships, and continue with fruitful projects to back up our
educational efforts. Your new officers will lead well. Please give them your
strong support, as you have done for me. Keep up your excellent work. Ill
be right beside you working for our goals and probably muttering our Mission
Statement!
Best Wishes, Mayme
